Who are we

Camping Sous Les Étoiles Normandie, "Under The Stars", is a family run campsite in the village of Saint-Martin-des-Besaces, Calvados, offering camping and caravanning. Perfectly situated for exploring the undulating picturesque countryside, tasting renowned cheeses, sampling sparkling cider and of course, the famous Calvados. We are the third owners of the campsite but have been lucky enough to have the original owners, Barry & Barbara, come and stay for a few weeks with their knowledge and wisdom.

Once a working farmstead, the grounds (over 5 hectares) have been re-designed with 50 large individually marked pitches, hedges, apple trees and borders overlooking lush green fields. The farmhouse, which has been tastefully renovated but retains its country charm with pleasant views.

To the North of Saint-Martin-des-Besaces are the D-Day Landing Beaches, where they celebrate the anniversaries of the landings every June. Bayeux with its medieval center contains cobbled streets, half-timbered houses and the towering, Norman-Gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame. It also is the home of the famous tapestry.

To the South is the historic and pretty village of Domfront, established in the 6th century and within Normandie's Regional Natural Park a protected area of forest and bocage.

To the East in Suisse Normand (little Switzerland) is Clécy with a miniature railway and the River Orne for canoeing and fishing.

To the West lies the breathtaking Mont Saint-Michel, a small island off the coast of Normandy, that is famous for its magnificent Romanesque-Gothic abbey buildings and beaches along the Cotentin shoreline.

Within the village, there is a Museum dedicated to the liberation of the Bocage Region and for the more adventurous is the Viaduc de la Souleuvre, which is a partially demolished railway viaduct over the Souleuvre River in La Ferrière-Harang,and is now used for bungee jumping.

We accept domestic pets on the campsite, so long as they are kept on a lead at all times. There is a veterinary practice close to the village capable of dealing with the necessary injections and worming for return to the UK.

Steve and Dawn offer all visitors a warm, friendly welcome and endeavour to make your visit to Normandy as enjoyable and memorable as possible.
